EN-RE, in accordance with its charter, requires an annual meeting to maintain contacts between the member groups and their representatives in order to ensure a good collaborative spirit. These annual meetings are arranged each year in a different country to allow for the participation of local member groups in a Study Day whose topics are chosen by the host country’s member groups.

These annual meetings often take place on the Ascension Day long weekend since this is a public holiday in the north of Europe. Starting the meeting on the thursday and finalising on the sunday after lunch allows plenty of time for Study Day and visits to local events of interest as well as for the workshops to discuss topics for adoption in the plenary business meeting.

Many of the EN-RE member groups are also members of WACI We Are Church International and when meetings of EN-RE and WACI take place in the same year there is a strain on each member group’s finances if their delegates have to travel to two different locations in the same year.

2018 is special because

Karíbu means Welcome in Swahili

The Karibu Association exists to care of welcoming Subsaharan African immigrants in Spain, the majority of whom arrive without Spanish entry entry permits in immigrant open boats or jumping over the frontier fences of Ceuta and Melilla. Their arrival is in the majority of cases after many months and, in some cases, years of travel since they left the homeland in the search of better security and living conditions.

Antonio Díaz de Freijo agrees to send me regularly information about the Karibu Association and he provided me with a copy of Karibu’s 2016 Report on the Madrid Foreigners Internment Centre (FIC) EL INTERNAMIENTO EN EL CIE DE MADRID that describes the serious deficiencies in the treatment of the interned persons and cites the testimonies of several interned persons.

We recommend you to read EL INFORME EN CIFRAS (Facts and Figures) on las pp. 6 & 7 and the CONCLUSIONES on pp. 48 y 49 and which are translated below.

La Asociación Karíbu se ocupa de dar acogida a las personas subsaharianas inmigrantes en España la mayoría de las cuales son inicialmente sin documentos españoles al haber entrado en pateras o saltando las vallas de Ceuta y Melilla. Su llegada es en la mayoría de los casos después de muchos meses y a menudo años de viaje desde su tierra en busca de mayor seguridad y bienestar.

La razón por la cual no hay apenas acogida de refugiados de Siria en España es porque estas personas ven más provecho buscar su residencia en el norte de Europa donde hay más facilidades para inmigrantes.

En Redes Cristianas, grupo miembro de EN-RE ha habido, a lo largo de los últimos meses, una creciente divergencia de pareceres acerca de la independencia de Cataluña entre los grupos miembros en Cataluña y en el resto de España así que pregunté a Christoph SPRENG, Vicepresidente de la Conferencia de ONGIs, para ver si habría una versión en castellano de la Caja de herramientas para el díalogo intercultural. Christoph me contestó diciendo que estas cajas de herramientas requieren bastante trabajo preliminar antes de poder construir una unidad específica pero me envió la Guide pratique pour la conduite de dialogues interculturels, Introduction et survol des chapîtres.
